Crime & Mystery
Crime fiction gets interesting when the suspect is telling the truth and still steering everyone wrong.
A visible lie is useful, of course. It gives the room something to grab. But the cleaner trick is the answer that checks out on paper and leaves out the one fact that changes everything. That’s the version I trust more, because it feels like real human evasiveness rather than stage business.
People rarely lie all the way through a conversation. They select, trim, reframe. Much more annoying. Much more believable.
