The best romantic tension usually has a bit of bad judgment in it. If everyone involved is making sensible, spreadsheet-approved choices, the chemistry can start to feel oddly tidy.
I’m more interested in the point where attraction stays inconvenient. Not because the writer is dragging things out, but because the character can see the problem and wants it anyway. That’s where romance starts to feel human rather than efficient.
Sometimes the sensible choice is simply dull. Which is rude, but there it is.
