Crime & Mystery
A search warrant can be more tense than the break-in scene. Once the police are inside, the real drama is in the limits: what they’re allowed to notice, what they can seize, what they have to leave sitting on the table because it’s not in scope. That’s where crime fiction gets properly sharp for me.
The door getting opened is only the first problem. After that comes the legal choreography, the awkward pauses, the things everybody can see and nobody can touch. Which is usually where the evidence starts to matter.
