Early draft
In 1797, a provincial surveyor in the Scottish Lowlands is sent to trace a disputed estate boundary after a violent death leaves the local records suddenly incomplete. As he follows old maps, parish gossip and altered ledgers, he finds the missing line may be hiding a much older crime. The work becomes less about drawing a boundary than deciding who has the right to define the past.
