Fantasy
The best magic costs are often the least glamorous ones.
Not blood, not prophecy, not a sky full of warning lights. A sore wrist from copying the same note three times because the first two drafts caught fire. A kettle left cold. A tool that never quite works properly again. A household that starts shifting its routines around one person’s exhaustion.
That feels truer to me than spectacle. Power usually leaves a paper trail, even in fantasy.
