Romance
Grand gestures in romance are often treated like proof, when they’re really just decoration unless the story has done the work first.
The more convincing moment is usually smaller. A practical thing done at the right time. Something that answers a need the other person has actually been carrying around. Less cinematic, perhaps, but it lands harder because it feels chosen rather than performed.
A grand gesture can still work. It just ought to feel like the last stitch, not the whole garment.
