Romance
Romance endings live or die on whether the feeling lasts past the last page. A grand gesture can be lovely, but a quieter follow-through often does more work: the remembered coffee order, the changed habit, the thing someone keeps doing when nobody is watching. That’s the bit that convinces me the character actually means it.
Big declarations are easy to dramatise. Keeping the promise in chapter 23, and chapter 47, and after the scene has stopped being romantic, is where the real payoff usually is. Bit rude of reality, really.
