The Kindle Unlimited versus wide debate often gets treated like a matter of principle, when it’s usually more practical than that.
Some books are built for one lane. Some aren’t. A short, bingeable series with a strong genre hook is not playing the same game as a slower, more exploratory book that might find readers through search, libraries, backlist sales, or the odd long tail miracle.
The awkward bit is that “best” depends on what the book actually is, not what the author wishes the market rewarded. Which is irritating, but also useful.
