Crime & Mystery
Minor witnesses are often more useful than the dramatic ones. The person who says, quite truthfully, that they saw nothing can be the one holding the whole thing together.
Not because they are lying. Because they have decided certain details do not count. A figure at a window. A door left open. The neighbour’s light on at an odd hour. All technically forgettable, all perfectly real.
That feels more interesting to me than a neat falsehood. Lies are noisy. Selective attention is where the good damage lives.
