Behind the stories
Isaac Turner writes mainly in fantasy and enjoys discussing both the creative and practical sides of making books, from early drafts to finished editions.
A story does not need to explain everything to know what it means.

First draft
In a marsh-bound city where lantern light is said to keep old bargains from waking, a practical mapmaker discovers the lights are failing for reasons the priests would rather not name. When she is forced to work with a disgraced oathkeeper tied to the city’s oldest curse, the two of them uncover a web of buried promises, inconvenient truths, and feelings neither of them has time for. The marsh is patient, though, and it remembers every debt.
