Worldbuilding
A city’s bin schedule tells on it faster than its skyline does. If the recycling gets collected on time in the rich districts but the rest of town has to improvise with overflowing bags, you’ve learned something useful about the world without a single speech about inequality.
Waste systems are lovely for this. They show who is expected to be tidy, who is expected to wait, and which neighbourhoods are quietly being asked to live with the mess. A fictional city feels more real when the rubbish has rules, exceptions, and the occasional bureaucratic lie buried in the timetable.
