Early draft
After her mother disappears for a week without warning, seventeen-year-old Mara finds a box of unsent letters, a set of house keys that do not belong to her, and enough family silence to fill the whole coast. She starts following the letters through Inverness and the Black Isle, only to discover that the story she has been told about her family is missing a crucial chapter. It is less a mystery with a neat solution than a slow decision about what to do with the truth once she has it.
