The Winter Ledger
In the winter of 1817, a widowed bookseller in Southampton discovers that her late husband has left behind more debts than she was told, and one of the men pressing for payment is the quiet solicitor sent to settle the estate. As she works to keep her shop and reputation intact, she finds herself drawn to the one person who has every reason to see her fail. Their growing attachment is complicated by family obligation, money, and the inconvenient fact that neither of them can afford to be reckless.
