Seventeen-year-old Mara spends her evenings working the late shift at a small railway cafe in Portsmouth, where she knows the regulars better than her own classmates. When a missing notebook turns up in the lost property box, it leads her into a slow, awkward friendship with the boy who left it behind, and into questions about the version of her life she has been carefully keeping still.
