In a near-future city where printed books have become rare, a careful cataloguer inherits a failing bookshop that is quietly tied to a municipal memory archive. When customers begin buying books that seem to change their own recollections, he realises the shop is part of a larger system designed to edit what a city remembers. He has to decide whether to preserve the archive, expose it, or let it disappear with the people who built it.
