First draft
When a rare local-history book disappears from Worcester’s central library, senior cataloguer Ruth Vale expects a disciplinary headache, not a murder inquiry. The missing volume turns out to contain marginal notes linking a long-closed unsolved death to a present-day theft ring that knows exactly how quietly small crimes can become big ones. As Ruth follows the paper trail, she has to decide how much damage she is willing to cause to bring the truth into the light.
