In a city where every citizen's value is tracked by a public compliance index, Mara Vale spends her days repairing the system that ranks everyone else's lives. When the index starts erasing people instead of measuring them, she finds a pattern hidden in the maintenance logs and a reason the city is so afraid of silence.
