The House at Saltmarsh Quay
When Ellen Vane inherits a decaying house on the edge of Southampton Water, she expects damp walls, bad wiring and a quick sale. Instead, she finds the rooms arranged around a sealed nursery, a ledger of names that stop in the same year, and neighbours who are oddly careful about what they remember. The house seems to be waiting for someone to return, and it is patient in the way old buildings sometimes are.
