The Harbour of Quiet Promises
Set in Plymouth in the years after the Napoleonic Wars, this novel follows a widowed dressmaker who has learned to keep her life small and orderly. When a damaged naval surveyor returns to the town with plans that threaten her workshop and the street around it, the two are forced into uneasy contact, and old loyalties begin to look a great deal like fresh trouble.
