In a near-future Lancaster, a municipal library begins receiving books that do not exist in any catalogue, each one containing altered versions of local lives. A reserve librarian who has spent years keeping other people’s stories in order starts to suspect the books are not errors but instructions, and that the city is being quietly revised around her.
