The Borrowed Bookmark
When a long-closed lending library in Glasgow reopens for a winter book fair, the volunteers find a rare bookmark hidden inside a returned volume and a local collector soon turns up dead. Elspeth Muir, a careful reader with a habit of noticing what other people miss, begins to suspect the murder is tied to a quiet dispute over books, signatures, and something someone was willing to steal back. As the library’s regulars close ranks, she has to untangle old loyalties before the wrong person is blamed.
