Behind the stories
Ryan Wells writes across romance and historical romance, with a particular interest in character, atmosphere, revision and the details that turn a manuscript into a finished book.
Writing gets interesting when the obvious choice stops working.

First draft
In 1890s Worcester, a widowed library assistant discovers that a set of unclaimed books has been quietly passing between readers who cannot be seen together in public. When the man helping her trace the books turns out to be tied to the very family she has reason to distrust, careful routine gives way to a riskier kind of hope. As the library’s future becomes entangled with private scandal, she has to decide whether to protect what is proper or what is true.
