In a near-future Kent where paper records are being quietly replaced by unstable municipal archives, a freelance book formatter is hired to restore a damaged local history file that keeps changing whenever it is opened. As she follows the edits, she finds evidence that the archive is not preserving the past so much as revising it to suit whoever can still afford to remember. The work becomes personal when the changes begin to erase people she knows.
