When a quiet bookshop in a Limerick terrace house becomes the centre of a local heritage campaign, its owner Nora Keane finds a first edition hidden inside a donated copy of an old Irish novel. The discovery pulls her into a small but stubborn mystery involving a missing letter, a disputed family inheritance and a circle of neighbours who all know slightly less than they claim. Nora would rather repair books and keep the shop open, but the dead author, the living relatives and the paperwork all have other plans.
