First draft
When a night-shift librarian in Coventry finds a dead man in a locked reading room, the police decide it is a straightforward case of trespass and bad luck. She notices small details they miss: a borrowed book that was never returned, a page marked in pencil, and a pattern of late-night visits that reaches further into the city than anyone expects. As she starts looking for the truth, the library becomes less a refuge than a place where old mistakes are being carefully shelved away.
