When a meticulous accounts assistant in Gloucester finds a hidden ledger in the archive room of a failing charity, she notices that small discrepancies have been quietly swallowing money for years. The deeper she looks, the more the missing figures point back to people who seem respectable, helpful and entirely ordinary. As she tries to prove the theft, she starts to suspect the real danger is not the fraud itself, but the way everyone around her is willing to explain it away.
