First draft
In 1816, Miss Eliza Vale returns to a crumbling Northumberland estate to sort through the papers of her late aunt, only to discover a cache of unsent letters that expose a long-buried family betrayal. The man helping her, Mr. Daniel Harcourt, is the estate’s new steward, practical to the point of rudeness and inconveniently hard to dismiss. As the two are forced to work together, the truth in the letters threatens both the future of Whitcombe Hall and the fragile trust growing between them.
