In 1893, a junior cataloguer at a private lending library in Bristol discovers that several books have been quietly altered, their missing pages pointing to a long-buried family scandal. As she follows the trail through reading rooms, back streets and respectable houses, she finds the library’s shelves are hiding a deliberate lie. The deeper she goes, the more dangerous it becomes to decide which story is true.
