When a long-running independent bookshop in Derby is sold without warning, its manager Mara Ellison is left to sort the stock, the debts and the people who have made the place part of their lives. As she tries to keep the shop open long enough for one final winter, old loyalties, private griefs and small acts of betrayal begin to surface. The book follows what happens when a place built on care is treated like an inconvenience.
