The Last Ferry Home
When a dockside accountant vanishes after the evening ferry from Portsmouth, the case is first treated as a routine disappearance. Then his ledger turns up in the wrong hands, and a small circle of people who should not know each other start lying in the same direction. The longer the search goes on, the less the missing man looks like a victim and the more he looks like the only witness to something carefully buried.
