The Salt Road to Candia
In the closing years of the 17th century, a disgraced English factor is sent to Crete to recover a cargo ledger that could clear his name and ruin a man more powerful than himself. Instead, he finds a city still half-haunted by war, a missing courier, and a route through the salt marshes that only the desperate will risk. The book follows a chase across ports, ruins and inland roads where every ally has a price.
