Rhys Foster writes across mystery and cozy mystery, with a particular interest in character, atmosphere, revision and the details that turn a manuscript into a finished book.
Readers notice more than writers sometimes give them credit for.

On the writing desk
Later first draft
When a small Stirling lending library prepares to close its doors, the volunteers discover that one of the returned books contains a handwritten message tied to a long-ignored local disappearance. Mara Bell, a careful book cataloguer with a habit of noticing what other people miss, starts asking questions she is not meant to ask. The closer she gets to the truth, the more the library’s quiet routine begins to look like a very tidy cover for old secrets.
