First draft
When a small coastal library in Aberystwyth begins finding borrowed books returned with odd annotations and one missing key tucked inside an old local history volume, cataloguer Elin Pritchard thinks it is a prank. Then a retired lighthouse keeper vanishes after asking to see the library’s restricted archive, and Elin discovers the notes point to a long-buried dispute over a vanished manuscript and a property line nobody wants reopened. As she follows the trail through bookshops, reading rooms and rain-soaked lanes, Elin has to decide which of her neighbours is merely secretive and which is willing to rearrange the past to protect themselves.
