Later first draft
When a rare book disappears from a small Bristol lending library during a winter storm, the volunteers assume it has been mis-shelved. Then a retired archivist is found dead among the stacks, and the missing volume turns out to be tied to an old local scandal. Librarian Mara Ellison has to untangle lies, grudges and careful bookkeeping before the library loses more than its reputation.
