The Quiet Between Stars
On a route of failing trade stations and half-forgotten relay habitats, a retired systems auditor is pulled into a dispute over an old navigation network that is starting to misroute ships. What looks like routine infrastructure trouble turns out to be tied to a buried decision from the end of a long war, and several factions would rather keep the network broken than let the truth surface. The story follows the slow, awkward work of tracing a problem that is partly technical and partly political, which is usually how these things go.
