In 1812, a disgraced surveyor is sent to map a stretch of the Yorkshire moors that everyone else would rather leave blank. When he finds evidence of a vanished community, the job turns into a search through old records, half-buried tracks and inconvenient truths about who gets to decide what is worth remembering. The moor is not the only thing that keeps changing shape.
