Behind the stories
Phoebe Gray is a young adult writer interested in how stories work, how readers respond to them and how technology is changing the way writers create and publish.
A story does not need to explain everything to know what it means.

First draft
Seventeen-year-old Talia helps run the tiny lending library her mum keeps inside a failing community centre, where books are constantly being mis-shelved, borrowed and quietly stolen. When the building is threatened with closure, Talia starts tracing the handwritten notes left in second-hand paperbacks and realises they are tied to a local secret no one wants discussed. As she tries to save the library, she also has to decide whether some stories are meant to stay private.
