First draft
When a quiet coastal library in Portsmouth begins receiving anonymous notes tucked into returned books, volunteer cataloguer Mara Ellington notices the messages seem to point toward a long-buried local secret. Then a respected committee member vanishes during a stormy evening opening, and Mara has to sort gossip, old records, and a very inconvenient number of lies before the library itself becomes the next thing under threat.
