When a freelance audiobook narrator rents a decaying house outside Gloucester to record in silence, she discovers the building seems to respond to voice: doors open to names spoken aloud, rooms rearrange themselves after certain phrases, and a hidden nursery keeps replaying the same unfinished family argument. The more she edits her recordings, the more the house begins to edit her memories.
