First draft
When a Sheffield bookshop starts receiving catalogues for books that do not exist yet, its owner spots a pattern in the margins: old debts, hidden names, and a warding system stitched into the city’s libraries. The books are real enough to change what people remember, and someone is using them to rewrite a long-buried bargain between the living and the dead. The story follows a reluctant bookseller as he is dragged into the city’s quieter magic, where the wrong edition can ruin a life.
