First draft
When a small-town bookbinder in Galway inherits a failing second-hand shop, she finds a set of handwritten notes hidden in the margins of a badly repaired paperback. The notes point to a long-ago disappearance that the town has quietly agreed not to discuss, and the more she reads, the more she suspects the book itself was used to pass messages between people who trusted no one. As she tries to save the shop, she ends up untangling a local secret that has survived by being treated like harmless background noise.
