After a rushed breakup and a stalled career, Mara Ellison takes a temporary job helping to restore a small independent bookshop near Canterbury West. The work is meant to be practical and quiet, until she keeps crossing paths with Daniel Hart, the architect overseeing the building next door, who is annoyingly attentive to detail and even more annoyingly hard to dismiss. As the shop's reopening begins to matter more than she expected, Mara has to decide whether she is still living according to other people's timelines.
