Later first draft
In the winter after the Williamite wars, a disgraced mapmaker is hired to recover a stolen coastal chart before it can be used to guide a private raid along the Munster shore. The search pulls him through harbours, libraries and half-ruined estates, where every answer seems to cost more than the last. It is a story about navigation, loyalty and the practical damage done by men who are certain they are right.
