In a harbour city built on old trade routes and older bargains, a junior map-copyist discovers that the sea charts in her archive are changing themselves at night. Each altered line points toward a chain of drowned islands that should not exist, and toward a forgotten treaty that kept the coast safe by hiding the truth from everyone who lived on it.
