The Salt Road to Corunna
In 1809, a disgraced coastal surveyor is sent north with a convoy carrying naval stores, private letters and one inconveniently silent child. When the road into Spain collapses into winter mud and retreating armies, he has to decide whether he is still the sort of man who can keep other people alive. The journey becomes less about reaching Corunna than about what he is willing to risk to get there.
