When sixteen-year-old Eli Mercer takes a holiday job cataloguing the locked library of Hollow Hall, he finds books that record things no one remembers ever happening. Each corrected entry changes the house, the village, and the people in it, which would be inconvenient enough if the library were not slowly erasing Eli himself.
