In 1816, a disgraced coastal surveyor is sent to map a string of hazardous wrecking grounds along the Yorkshire coast, where old smuggling routes, broken loyalties and a vanished cargo begin to overlap. What starts as a practical assignment turns into a chase through tide, fog and local grudges, with every answer costing more than the last.
