In a near-future Britain where printed books are rationed, repaired, and quietly removed from circulation, Mara Venn works in a municipal book depository that claims to preserve cultural memory. When she discovers that entire neighbourhoods are being erased from the archive as well as the map, she starts following the paper trail through bookshops, storage depots, and the people who still remember what was taken. The deeper she digs, the more it looks as if the city’s official version of history is being edited for reasons no one wants spoken aloud.
