First draft
When a quiet lending library in Liverpool starts losing books that were never meant to leave the building, assistant archivist Mara Ellis notices the thefts line up with a string of local disappearances. She follows the trail through reading rooms, back rooms and old borrowing records, only to find that the missing books are the least damaged thing in the story. The deeper she digs, the more she has to decide whether some truths are worth putting back on the shelf.
