In a city where every citizen’s memories are periodically audited for “stability,” Mara Venn works in the archive that stores the edited versions of people’s lives. When she finds a set of records that show the same forbidden event erased from hundreds of minds, she begins to suspect the system is not preserving order so much as hiding a collapse it caused itself. As the city’s memory network starts to fail, Mara has to decide whether truth is worth the damage it may leave behind.
